
Ms. Earl is an Assistant Professor of English
at Hampton University in Hampton, VA., where she
has been named Chair of the English Department’s
Film Committee and Chair of Hampton University’s
Athletics Committee. In addition to teaching courses
such as Introduction to Screenwriting, Introduction
to Motion Pictures, Introduction to Literature,
Written Communication (Honors), and Black American
Theatre, she has produced many events for the
university. In 2006 guests included Alice Walker,
author of The Color Purple, film producers Reuben
Canon( Medea’s Family Reunion, Down in the
Delta) Paul Hall(Higher Learning), and Monty Ross
( She’s Got to Have It, Malcolm X). Currently,
she is a producer on the Omar Tyree adaptation,
Leslie, which is in development. Monty Ross is
also a producer on this film which is being Executive
Produced by Arthur Wylie and Omar Tyree.
Prior to joining the staff at Hampton University,
Ms. Earl was an Adjunct Professor of Communication
Studies and Humanities at Pepperdine University
in Malibu, CA from 1998 to 2003.
She has been teaching at the collegiate level
in the areas of Communication Studies, Humanities,
Theatre, and English for ten years. She has lectured
at Pepperdine University and The DeVry Institute
of Technology in California; Hampton University
and Tidewater Community College in Virginia; and
Queens College in New York.
She was given the National Collegiate Communication
Arts Award in 1993, and was certified to teach
for The University of Phoenix in 1999. She was
also a Yip Harburg Fellow at New York University.
She has also been an Advisory Board member for
the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival
since 2001.
Ms. Earl received a B.A. in Rhetoric and Communication
Studies from The University of Virginia in May
of 1993. In December of 1994 she earned an M.A.
in Humanities with emphases in Communication,
English Literature, and Theatre from Old Dominion
University, with graduate credits in English Literature
from The Institute for Scholars in International
Studies held at Oxford University in Oxford, England.
In May of 1997, in her 20’s, she took an
M.F.A. in Musical Theatre Writing as a Bookwriter/
Librettist/ Lyricist from The Tisch School of
the Arts at New York University.
Ms. Earl is the
Business Manager of “Hollywood’s Living
Legend of Urban Comedy” and BET Comic View’s
former Co-Host, Reynaldo Rey. Mr. Rey’s
production company, Sweet Redd Enterprises, and
E. L. Earl Entertainment, have partnered in developing
feature film and television projects, and “live”
shows. They are currently co-executive producing
a feature film, “Chicago Redd,” based
on the friendship of Rey and Redd Foxx during
the 12 years Foxx managed his career (www.reynaldorey.com).
She is also managing Bruce George, Co- Founder
and former Co- Executive Producer of Russell Simmons’
Def Poetry on HBO. Mr.George received a Peabody
Award for his groundbreaking work on the project(
www.brucegeorgemedia.com).
E . L. Earl Entertainment
enjoyed a joint-venture with Tammy McCrary, Chaka
Khan’s Manager and Project Developer, of
Earthsong Entertainment and Vertex Records, to
develop “live events” and film and
television projects. E . L. Earl Entertainment
shared offices with Earthsong Entrainment and
Vertex Records in North Hollywood ,CA for over
two years.
As a writer, Ms. Earl has had staged readings
of her plays and musicals at such venues as Her
Majesty’s Theatre and Covent Garden’s
Africa Centre in London. Several of her original
plays have been produced off-off Broadway in New
York. She was a member of the Blacksmyths, a writing
workshop at the Mark Taper Forum in L.A., and
performed her one-woman show, for which she wrote
both text and music, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
in Scotland.
Currently, she is completing libretto and music
for an opera, an adaptation of the 1861 slave
narrative, “Incidents in the Life of a Slavegirl.”
Orchestration and additional music are being provided
by world-renowned composer/conductor, Shirley
Thompson of London, England.
As an actress, poet, and singer Eleanor has performed
in London, Scotland, New York, and Los Angeles.
She has shared the stage with Carol Maillord of
the internationally acclaimed singing group “Sweet
Honey in the Rock,” celebrated poet Amiri
Baraka, and she was featured as a poet alongside
Nikki Giovanni and Sonia Sanchez for the “Saturn
Women 2 Women Tour” at the 20th Century
Fox Studios in Los Angeles, CA. As a singer she
has performed with legendary artists like Andrae
Crouch and Billy Preston.
Currently, E. L. Earl Entertainment is in development
on “Hamlet: The Calling,” a gospel
movie musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s
“Hamlet.” NYU Graduate Film Alumni
Ed Durante and Rohan Sen wrote the script.
E. L. Communications, Inc., a subsidiary of E.
L. Earl Entertainment, has also developed a series
that offers sports and entertainment professionals
an opportunity to receive enhancement in media
training, public speaking, life skills, and many
other areas. The program targets both professional
athletes and entertainers in film, music, television,
and stage.
